IEC
   1. Inter Exchange Carrier; also called an IXC. Any common carrier authorized by the FCC to carry customer transmissions between local access and transfer areas (LATA).
   2. any carrier providing long distance calling service (e.g., AT&T, MCI, Sprint); IECs were once referred to as OCCs (Other Common Carriers), but that term did not include AT&T.
